About me
Mary Helen Garza commenced her professional public education career as a second grade teacher in the Brownsville Independent School District. Her capacities in the district progressed to Compensatory Education Facilitator, Title I Federal Programs Elementary Coordinator, Principal, and Administrator for Federal Programs as she acquired her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees and professional certifications from the University of Texas Pan American and the University of Texas Brownsville. She served as Adjunct Instructor in the Early Childhood Education and English As a Second Language Departments at Texas Southmost College for five years. She was Co-administrator/Co-owner of Little Folks Day Care Center for twenty-five years. She founded and became the Executive Director of two youth development programs in Brownsville---The First Tee Greater Brownsville and LPGA USGA Girls Golf--- for fifteen years. She is a graduate of Leadership Brownsville and Women’s Leadership Texas and served on the Executive Board of the Cameron County Commission on the Status of Women. She has served on numerous civic and state Boards---The Governor’s Mentoring Initiative (Texas Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service) and Texas Education Agency State Committee for Distance Learning (Migrant Education Program). From 2006 to the present, she proudly serves as an Educate Texas CCRMS Leadership Coach providing technical support and assistance to former T-STEM and current ECHS and P-TECH High Schools in the Rio Grande Valley.
